Packet Whacker
Updated: Jan 27, 2005
Description
Finally, microcontrolller Ethernet on the cheap that is easy to use.
The EDTP Packet Whacker is a 10Base-T Ethernet microcontroller NIC that allows you to add Ethernet functionality to your favorite AVR microcontroller.
The Packet Whacker is based on the industry standard NE2000-compatible Realtek RTL8019AS Ethernet IC. All pins of the RTL8019AS that are used to implement Ethernet connectivity with an AVR microcontroller are brought out to standard .100 inch center holes on the Packet Whacker's printed circuit board. Example ImageCraft C-based source code, onboard status LEDs, A 20MHz crystal and consolidated magnetics and RJ-45 interface in the form of an LF1S022 make the Packet Whacker very easy to deploy in your AVR Ethernet-based application.
The idea is to provide low-cost easy to implement Ethernet for AVRs. Using the resources of the EDTP Electronics web site, you can find everything you want (or need) to know about the RTL8091AS in the form of free documentation, source code, schematics and data sheets.
Packet Whacker sells for $25 in kit form and $35 fully assembled and ready to go.
NOTE: Mounting pins are included with the assembled Packet Whacker but are not soldered in. This allows you to use the pins that are included or other pins you may prefer that are appropriate for your particular application.
