<title>Digital Calipers DRO</title>
<link>http://8515.avrfreaks.net/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=850</link>
<description>
At NerdKits, we are always looking for the best way to help people learn electronics, and get excited about microcontrollers. To that end, we recently acquired a Smithy 1220XL lathe / mill combo machine. We intend to use this machine to bring you new and exciting video tutorials.

While getting acquainted with the machine, we noticed the calibrated dial ticks on the Z-axis were far too coarse to get the precise cuts we knew the machine was capable of making. So, in order to improve our machine, we created a digital read out for the axis by using a cheap digital caliper and a NerdKits Microcontroller Kit. The digital read out (DRO) uses the information from the calipers to display the current position of the cutting tool on the LCD.

<title>Passive RFID On-Metal Tag Series for on metal Tagging</title>
<link>http://8515.avrfreaks.net/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=847</link>
<description>DAILY RFID has launched passive RFID On-Metal Tag Series, a kind of adhesive RFID on-metal Tags. The RFID tags are designed for close quarters checking, with high performance for on-metal tagging.

Operating at 125 KHz or 13.56 MHz, the RFID metal tags could be a good selection for industries that require tags to track products containing metal or directly on metal. And it can be easily affixed to any metal surface with its self-adhesive 3M Glue.

The new series of RFID metal tags are pushing the envelope with advanced designs and unique constructions with lightweight materials. And the small RFID metal tags can provide an impressive read range from 40mm to 100mm on metal basing on different RFID readers, and maximum to 60 cm by using DAILY's special RFID reader.

The small, fully encapsulated RFID tags for on-metal tagging can be used for asset tracking applications, such as railway and warehousing solutions.

You can visit http://www.rfid-in-china.com/products_667_1.html for more info about LF/HF RFID On-Metal Tag Series.

<title>Multi-Panel LED Array Using SPI</title>
<link>http://8515.avrfreaks.net/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=834</link>
<description>In this project, we put a new twist on our old idea, and modified our original LED Array into a giant multi panel array -- theoretically capable of driving 1200 LEDs (or more if you are creative!). The project uses the SPI bus to communicate between different chips, so in addition to the awesome new LED sign, we also go over how to operate another useful piece of the ATmega168 microcontroller.</description>
